A vApp is a cloud computer system that contains one or more pre-configured virtual machines (VMs).  vApps are used to stack multiple VMs so they can run as an application and provide support to cloud architectures.

To build a new vApp:

1. Log in as an administrator.
2. Click on the Home tab (you should be brought here by default).
3. Click Build New vApp.

When you arrive at the Select Name and Location page:

4. In the Name field, create a name for the vApp.
5. In the Description field, create a brief description for the vApp.
6. From the Virtual Datacenter dropdown list, select the virtual datacenter that you would like to store and run the vApp on.
7. From the Runtime lease dropdown lists, select how long vApps can run before they are automatically stopped.
8. From the Storage lease dropdown lists, select how long stopped vApps are available before being automatically cleaned up.
9. Click Next.

When you arrive at the Add Virtual Machines page, you can search the catalog for virtual machines to add to this vApp or add a new blank VM.

If you wish to add a new blank virtual machine, continue at step 14.

If you wish to search the catalog for an existing virtual machine, proceed to the next step, and then skip steps 14-28.

10. From the Look in dropdown list, select a catalog.
11. Select a virtual machine.
12. Click Add.

13. Click Next.
14. If you would like to create a new blank virtual machine, click New Virtual Machine...
15. In the Virtual Machine name field, create a name for the virtual machine.
16. In the Computer name field, enter the computer name or host name of this virtual machine to help identify it on a network.
17. From the Virtual hardware version dropdown list, select a hardware version.
18. Select an Operating System Family from the options that are displayed.
19. From the Operating System dropdown list, select the operating system for the virtual machine.
20. From the Number of Virtual CPUs dropdown list, select the number of CPUs for the virtual machine.
21. From the Cores per socket dropdown list, select the number of cores per socket for the virtual machine.
22. Select the Expose hardware-assisted CPU virtualization to guest OS checkbox, if you would like to support virtualization servers or 64-bit VMs on this virtual machine.
23. From the Memory dropdown lists, select the amount of storage memory you would like the virtual machine to have.
24. From the Hard disk size dropdown lists, select the amount of hard disk space that you would like the virtual machine to have.
25. From the Bus type dropdown list, select a data transfer type.
26. From the Number of NICs dropdown list, select the number of NICs that you would like the virtual machine to have.
27. Click OK.
28. Click Next.

When you arrive at the Configure Resources page:

29. From the Storage Policy dropdown list, select a storage policy for the vApp.
30. Click Next.

When you arrive at the Configure Virtual Machines page:

31. In the Computer name field, create a name for your virtual machines.
32. From the Network dropdown list, select an existing network or select Add network...

If you chose an existing network, continue at step 45.

If you selected Add network... , proceed to the next step.

33. In the Gateway address field, enter the gateway address for your vApp network.
34. In the Network mask field, enter your vApp network mask.
35. (Optional) In the Primary DNS field, enter the primary DNS for your vApp network.
36. (Optional) In the Secondary DNS field, enter your secondary DNS for your vApp network.
37. (Optional) In the DNS suffix field, enter the DNS suffix for your vApp network.
38. In the Static IP Pool field, enter an IP range or enter an IP address.
39. Click Add.
40. Click Next.

41. In the Network name field, enter a name for the vApp network.
42. In the Description field, create a brief description for the vApp network.
43. Review the information on the Ready to Complete page.
44. Click Finish.
45. Click Next.

When you arrive at the Configure Networking page:

46. From the Connection dropdown list, select an organization VDC network to connect your vApp network to.
47. Click Next.
48. Review the information on the Ready to Complete page.
49. Click Finish.
