Remotely connecting to a virtual machine

You can connect to a virtual machine right from your desktop by using the Remote Desktop Connection file.


Requirements:

  • The virtual machine must be powered on.
  • The virtual machine must be running a Windows guest OS that has Remote Desktop functionality enabled.
  • The virtual machine must be on a network that has an assigned IP and is accessible by the client.
  • The RDP port 3389 must be open on the guest OS.


To set up remote desktop connectivity:


  1. Log in to Cloudpath.
  2. Click on the My Cloud tab.
  3. In the left pane, locate the My Cloud section.
  4. Click VMs.
  5. Select a virtual machine, and then right-click your selection.
  6. Click Download Windows Remote Desktop Shortcut File.

The virtual machine must be powered on, running a Windows guest OS, and have RemoteDesktop enabled in the guest OS.

The virtual machine must have an IP assigned on its network that is accessible by the client.

The RDP port 3389 must be open on the guest OS.

Click My Cloud.

In the left pane, click VMs.

Select a virtual machine, right-click, and select Download Windows RemoteDesktop Shortcut File.

In the Download RDP Shortcut File dialog box, click Yes.

Navigate to the location where you want to save the file and click Save.

Double-click the file and select Connect.
