Extend a virtual machine disk in Hyper V

If you would like to increase the size of a virtual machine disk, follow the steps below:


  1. Click VIRTUAL MACHINES.

  1.  Select the virtual machine that needs its disk extended.
  2. If the virtual machine is running, click SHUTDOWN.

  1. Go into the virtual machine.

  1.  Click CONFIGURE.

  1. Select the disk, and then click EXPAND.

  1. Use the slider to increase the disk size.
  2. Click the checkmark.

  1. Power on the virtual machine and RDP to it.
  2. Go to Server Manager > File and Storage Services > Volumes > Disks.

  1. Right-click the disk, and click Extend Volume…

The extra volume will be added to the disk.
